Strategy that drives the business, content that earns attention.

Over the past 6 years, I've helped brands and founders tell better stories that deliver measurable business results. I specialise in developing content strategies that connect first touch to long-term loyalty. I'm equally comfortable leading teams, writing high-converting copy, briefing creatives, and presenting strategy to senior stakeholders.

My work brings together strategic thinking and creator instinct. I understand how algorithms work, how content converts, and how to translate complex products into narratives that make people stop, feel, and act. I've built content ecosystems from zero, grown audiences from nothing into thriving communities, and created frameworks that scale.

I write, edit, and produce content with the same care I bring to strategy. From content audits and information architecture to UX writing, newsletters, and viral social hooks, I own the work end to end.

Three case studies. Three different problems. One consistent approach to strategy and content.

Each of these projects started with a real business problem. Each required strategic content thinking from the ground up. I've focused on the strategy, content, and marketing decisions I led, the rationale behind them, and the outcomes they produced.

B2B SaaS, Content Strategy, 2 Years

The Digital Strategy Transformation of BEST SAP

"World-class enterprise software with a digital presence that was actively undermining their credibility. I rebuilt the entire content ecosystem from the ground up."

View live site

The Challenge

BEST develops SAP-certified add-on modules for Fortune 500 enterprise finance teams. The product was exceptional. The content strategy was non-existent.

  • Critical product information buried in static PDFs
  • Dense, jargon-heavy copy with no clear hierarchy
  • No email infrastructure, no nurture content, no SEO strategy
  • Losing prospects to competitors with stronger digital storytelling
  • A 24 month sales cycle with no content to support it

The Strategy

I led the content strategy across five phases:

  • Audit: A 9 point content evaluation framework to expose every gap
  • Research: Three personas mapped across a 24 month buyer journey
  • Framework: Four content pillars, full taxonomy, and an information architecture redesign from product-first to user-need-first
  • Migration: 60+ PDFs rewritten and restructured into optimised web content
  • Ecosystem: Website, email, LinkedIn, paid media, and blog content unified under one content engine

What I Wrote & Built

Homepage rewritten around a single value proposition. Long-form product narratives that replaced jargon with user benefits. Email nurture sequences for warm and cold databases. LinkedIn content that mixed thought leadership with product education. SEO blog content targeting long-tail keywords aligned to persona pain points. Sales enablement materials including case studies, one-pagers, and webinar scripts.

Content audit findings

The site failed on 6 of 9 critical UX elements: simplicity, visual hierarchy, consistency, accessibility, credibility, and user-centricity. 60+ pages of content existed, but it was scattered, inaccessible, and poorly organised. The content existed. It just couldn't be found or understood.

Three personas served

Finance Manager: needed the ROI and automation case. IT Decision Maker: needed integration proof and security. C-Suite Executive: needed strategic benefits and compliance. Each at different stages of a 24 month sales cycle, each requiring different content at different moments.

Content framework

Four content pillars: Product Excellence, Business Value, Trust & Credibility, Thought Leadership. New IA: Home, Solutions, Products, Resources, Demo. Taxonomy designed for omnichannel reuse with persona, journey-stage, and product tags.

Strategic outcome

The founders attributed (at least in part) their acquisition by Abingdon Software Group to the digital transformation work we did together. The content ecosystem demonstrated product value and credibility to potential acquirers.

Community, Brand Launch, 6 Months

The Lekker Network: Building South Africa's Fastest Growing Business Network

"From a LinkedIn conversation to roughly R7M in revenue in 12 months. Proof of what happens when authentic vision meets agile content execution."

View live site

The Challenge

Build a credible business network brand from nothing in 6 months. Capture authentic South African entrepreneurship without falling into clichés. Convert passive interest into paid memberships through content alone.

  • No brand, name, or visual identity to start with
  • Building trust with members joining an untested concept
  • Complex membership structure requiring a custom platform
  • Launching in public, with every decision visible to the audience

The Strategy

I led the content and community strategy across three parallel workstreams:

  • Brand narrative: An authentic SA business identity grounded in real stories, not flag waving
  • LinkedIn-led content engine: A founder-driven posting strategy designed to compound organic reach
  • Community programming: Content frameworks, WhatsApp activation systems, and event narratives that turned followers into members

The original content plan looked nothing like what we delivered. We adapted weekly based on what was actually landing with the community.

What I Wrote & Built

Founder narratives that gave the network a face. LinkedIn content frameworks balanced across personal stories, business insights, and community moments. Launch event narratives and on-site comms. Member onboarding sequences and WhatsApp community rituals. Strategic newsletters that nurtured prospective members across the 30 day decision window before signup. All built to convert reach into revenue.

The community thesis

The network addresses a real gap. High-quality global networking for entrepreneurs with a deep connection to South Africa. Content had to honour that connection without leaning on stereotypes.

Why LinkedIn-led

The decision-makers we needed to reach lived on LinkedIn. We built a content strategy that combined personal storytelling, founder narratives, and community moments to grow from 0 to 14,000 followers in six months. Every post was written to compound reach and convert attention into membership conversations.

Build-in-public methodology

Every major decision happened in real time with community input. Brand decisions, content angles, and even pricing were shaped by feedback from founding members. This created early advocates who felt genuine ownership over the network's success.

Commercial outcome

R7M+ in revenue. 350+ paid members across 22 countries. The content strategy did the converting. The community did the compounding.

Founder-Led Content, Creator Strategy, 3 Months

Turning Four Industry Experts Into Founder-Creators

"Four world-class transformation experts. Zero personal brand presence. Ninety days to make them the most listened-to voices in their category."

View live site

The Challenge

Four distinguished transformation experts wanted to launch a global consultancy. Their combined credentials were extraordinary. Their digital presence was non-existent. None of them had ever posted as a founder before.

  • Four distinct founder voices, each needing to feel native on LinkedIn
  • A category drowning in generic, corporate transformation content
  • Zero content history, zero audience, zero algorithm familiarity
  • A three month window to launch and build presence simultaneously

Among the founders: Paul Cobban, architect of DBS Bank's transformation from "Damn Bloody Slow" to "World's Best Digital Bank".

The Creator Strategy

I led the founder content strategy. The goal: make each founder sound like a real person, not a consultant brochure.

  • Voice discovery: Deep-dive sessions to extract each founder's actual point of view, hot takes, and signature stories
  • Platform-native content: LinkedIn-first content built for the algorithm, with hooks, pacing, and structure designed to stop scroll
  • Four parallel content engines: Each founder running on their own posting cadence, content pillars, and narrative arc
  • Phased launch: Founders went live with personal posts before the brand did. The people built the audience. The brand inherited it.

What I Wrote & Built

Personal LinkedIn posts in each founder's voice, refined through multiple rounds until they were comfortable claiming the work as their own. Long-form thought leadership pieces that converted decades of experience into shareable stories. Hooks engineered for first-three-second retention. Reply scripts and engagement playbooks so the founders could nurture the community their content was attracting. The brand site, launch email sequence, and the systems for keeping the content engine running without me in the room.

Why founder-led, not brand-led

In a category full of identical positioning, the only real differentiator was the people. Their actual track records (DBS Bank, Edward de Bono's strategic thinking methodology, decades of practical transformation work) proved the people-first thesis more powerfully than any tagline could. So the founders led, and the brand followed.

Writing in someone else's voice

The hardest part of founder-led content is the voice. If it does not sound like them, they will not post it. If it does sound like them, but it does not land, the algorithm punishes them. I worked through enough drafts with each founder that they could read a post out loud and have it feel like something they would actually say.

Native, not polished

No corporate jargon. No bullet-point posts. No "thrilled to announce." Content built for how people actually read on LinkedIn: short lines, real opinions, specific stories, clear stakes. The category was loud with sameness. We won attention by sounding like real humans.

Where we are now

I'm still their strategic content partner as they scale. The focus has shifted to deepening the founder voices, scaling the content engine, and converting the audience into active client conversations while protecting the voice we built together.

What people I've worked with have to say.

The clients and colleagues below have worked closely with me on long-term content and creator strategy projects. Their words speak to how I think, write, and partner.

"Thato and I worked together for a good couple of months when he supported me with my LinkedIn posts as a writer. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He went to great lengths to fully understand and grasp my thinking and what I would like to bring across. Further than that he was comfortable challenging me and proposing new approaches and content ideas. As a result we managed to get high engaged levels among our relevant target audience."
